The coastal measuring platform
As a thesis project, a year-long study was conducted on the optimization of coastal safety. This involved examining swimmers, beach rescuers, and external rescue services to address the problem from various perspectives. After months of research, ‘Onflow’ was developed. Onflow is a smart platform consisting of a measuring buoy located in the sea and a digital platform. The buoy retrieves data from the sea, which is then visible to the lifeguards who can make adjustments accordingly to ensure public safety.
The ‘Onflow’ measuring buoy is a compact buoy that performs real-time measurements in the swimming zone along the coast. The gathered information is shared with beach lifeguards, allowing them to ensure the safety of beachgoers and optimize their own work efficiency. The buoy continuously measures both the flow rate and flow direction. When the buoy detects critical flow values, it will alert beach lifeguards using a signaling light, enabling them to take preventive measures.
The second part of my product idea involves a data platform where information from the measurement buoy is collected. It informs beachgoers about sea hazards, regulations, and swimming zones. The platform is designed to accommodate future technologies for enhanced coastal safety. Feedback sessions with lifeguards and beach visitors ensured an optimal user experience during development.I first started by creating wireframes in figma and Illustrator which were later transformed into a real website using webflow.
